WAG Competition Program
Gymnasts selected to be part of this invitation-only program show motivation and determination to achieve excellence in Gymnastics. This program focuses on strength and flexibility to help with skill development and progression. Commitment for the full year is an expectation in this program. Girls in the WAG program level 2-10 are expected to attend 4 external invitational competitions throughout the year. Girls in level 1 programs will be invited to attend 3 events throughout the year to demonstrate their skills.
Gymnasts in the junior levels (levels 0-2) are assessed by Senior Chamford Coaches during normal training hours to determine when they are ready to move up to the next level. Gymnasts in the senior levels (squad 3-10) program are tested externally at selected competitions organised by Gymnastics Victoria (Levels Awards Test - LAT).
All gymnasts are expected to attend all training sessions each week. Gymnasts will compete with all girls in their level at competitions. Gymnasts who have shown a strong work ethic and focus may be invited to the level extension sessions. Before increasing hours a gymnast needs to be fully using the training hours they currently have.
In 2023 Chamford offers the following WAG competitive programs:
Pre Development
Australian Levels Program Level 1 & 2
Australian Levels Program Level 3 – 9 Limited & Unlimited Hours
Membership $135
This is a compulsory, annual fee that covers registration and insurance with Gymnastics Australia, and also includes a Chamford membership fee.
Trials in the First Term of Competitive Squad
The first term a gymnast joins a level or squad group is a trial term. At the end of the term, the coach and head coach will determine if it’s an appropriate class and level for the gymnast and advise the parents.
Ballet Sessions
All gymnasts in the WAG Competition program will have weekly ballet sessions to help develop fluency and graceful movement. The $10 per term fee will be included on your Term Fees invoice.
Competition Uniform
All gymnasts must purchase full uniforms before competition season starts. Uniforms can be ordered through the Office. If you are unsure what uniform items are required, please refer to the uniform table displayed on the notice board near the Office.
Competitions Levy
All gymnasts are expected to attend the 4 invitational competitions selected by the Club. Details regarding the venues and dates will be sent out as soon as they become available to the Club. The Competition Levy is invoiced separately from tuition fees and must be paid in full by the due date or gymnasts will not be entered into the competitions. Gymnasts train and compete as a team at all levels. If your schedule changes and your daughter is unable to attend a competition, please advise the Club as soon as possible. We can only receive refunds if a gymnast does not compete due to illness or injury and a medical form needs to be provided.
Holiday Training
All gymnasts are expected to attend training during the school holidays to maintain body preparation (strength and flexibility) and continue skill development. It is an advantage to attend these sessions because they are for competitive gymnasts only and the groups have extended time on apparatus. Holiday training is charged with the tuition fees for the next term. Holiday training dates and times can be found on the website and on the term calendars.
Maintenance and Equipment Levy
All WAG and Gymstar gymnasts are required to pay a $85 Levy with their Term 2 Fees or help for a minimum of 3 hours at a Chamford working bee. Other volunteer work may be deemed appropriate by the Head Coach for the Levy to be waived. There will be working bee opportunities throughout the year.
Parent Viewing
We have limited viewing space at Chamford and request that parents only stay 5 minutes on drop off and arrive 5 minutes before pick up. This ensures the gymnasts have a focused training session from beginning to end.
